Net One Systems and Nortel Networks Collaborate in Developing LAN Switches
Strengthen the Security Capability of BayStack 470 Series with the New Traffic Separation Function

Net One Systems Co., Ltd. (headquarters: Shinagawa-Ku, Tokyo; President & CEO: Osamu Sawada) and Nortel Networks Corporation (headquarters: Shinagawa-Ku, Tokyo; President & CEO: John J. Giamatteo) announced that they have jointly developed Ethernet switches offering a traffic separation function. This new function will be installed into Nortel Networks Ethernet Switch BayStack 470 series and will be delivered by Net One to local government as well as carriers and enterprise customers.

The conventional layer two switches have not been able to designate routes according to IP addresses or type of traffic, although they can control improper traffic by acknowledging layer two, three, or four and give a priority to certain traffic, such as VoIP. The new BayStack 470 series will enables automatic allocation of traffic with route control for accesses to Internet networks and IP-based private networks. As a result, improper accesses from Internet networks to IP-based private networks or those from IP-based private networks to Internet networks can be blocked. The offering of this function allows a reduction of network building cost than introducing the layer three switches and also enables the provision of strong network security with low cost layer two switches.
