Net One Systems commences sales of Multiservice switch having 5 times the density of legacy ATM devices.
Leverage existing infrastructure in the migration to next-generation IP/MPLS technologies.
Net One Systems (headquarters: Shinagawa, Tokyo; President & CEO: Kazuo Sato) entered into a reseller agreement with WaveSmith Networks (hereinafter, WaveSmith; headquarters: MA, USA) (NOTE) and will commence sales of DN series (DN = Distributed Node?), a multiservice switch from July 25, 2002. This will be the first introduction of the WaveSmith product in Japan.
WaveSmith DN series is compact with 2U to 7U chassis, but has backplane switching capacity of 30Gbps. In addition, the number of interfaces may be increased and devices may be stacked to achieve the maximum capacity of 320Gbps. Just one system is capable of manages switching capacity comparable to over 5 times the density of legacy ATM devices.
The interfaces are OC-3/STM1, OC-12/STM4, and DS3/1/0 and supports ATM and Frame Relay to realize Telephony-Grade (99.9999% availability, which is greater than Carrier-Class) service. In the future, interfaces for OC-48/STM16, Fast Ethernet, gigabit Ethernet will be released and support for IP/MPLS is planned. This will ensure migration path for integrating leased line services such as ATM, Frame Relay to IP/MPLS technologies.
By introducing the most advanced multiservice switch that has telephony-grade, and through making use of extensive experience and support system in IP, Net One will lead the integration of existing network to IP/MPLS backbone and provide cost efficient and highly reliable next-generation network. This will further our high value added solution providing comprehensive One-Stop service that supports all aspects of customers' network infrastructure needs.
■Realize migration to IP/MPLS while using existing network
Recently, telecom companies including carriers and ISPs have started considering integrating existing ATM and Frame Relay, and new services as IP-VPN and wide area Ethernet by using IP/MPLS. Net One forecasts that IP/MPLS will become the common backbone for legacy and next-generation network in the near future. In this new environment, without doubt, there will be a need for a higher reliability/availability for edge/core switch router.
WaveSmith's DN series was released February 2002. In the United States, the product has been deployed for carriers' commercial use, and has been highly acclaimed for providing high features and reliability while keeping the size compact.
